Building ASP menus with Menu Maker

The following example illustrates how to combine Active Server Pages and JavaScript to build dynamic menus.

Create menu with ASP entry

1. Launch Menu Maker
2. Double click menu item to open its properties
3. Enter ASP variable (menuitem) and click OK:

   

   

4. Export JS file (menu.js)

Modify JS file

1. Navigate to menu.js file
2. Rename it to menu.php
3. Open the file in Notepad and add include statement before JavaScript code:

   

4. Save the file. You have to add #include statement every time you modify your menu and export new .js file from Menu Maker.

Create menu.inc file

Create menu.inc file and set menuitem variable to your value. You can for example open database and read recordsets. We use basic code:

Create menu.htm page

Create blank html page and include menu.php tag. You have to use .php extension instead of .js We use basic code:

Upload files

ASP code works on the server only. To see the menu item you need to upload all 3 files to your web server.
