Flash Player 8 Security

Important information about setting up Flash player 8 to view local Flash files.

Symptoms

Get URL action doesn't work when the Flash file is on your local hard drive.

Solution

To view local Flash files saved under a local folder:

  1. Install Flash Designer 5.0.22.1 or above
  2. Run Flash Designer after installed and close it (it will generate a basic trust configuration file under C:\Windows\System\Macromed\FLASH\FlashPlayerTrust\selteco.cfg)
If it doesn't solve the problem:

  1. Find out what local disk are your Flash files
  2. Navigate to c:\windows\system\Macromed\FLASH\FlashPlayerTrust and open selteco.cfg file with Notepad.
  3. Make sure the disk with your Flash files matches the disk named in selteco.cfg file.
  4. If not - close Notepad, copy selteco.cfg to a new file, rename the copy to localdisk.cfg (you can use any name but you must leave .cfg extension)
  5. Open the file localdisk.cfg and modify the existing path to disk name only, for example to C:\ or D:\. Close Notepad and save the file.
  6. Do not modify selteco.cfg file directly
