Selteco Software

Convert progressive JPEGs to baseline

SYMPTOMS

When importing JPEG image Flash Designer gives the following warning message:

This JPEG is in progressive compression unsupported by Macromedia Flash player. It will be converted to baseline compression.

and the quality of JPEG image may be decreased. If you don't want default conversion you have to convert JPEG images manually (for example with Selteco Photo Lab)

Flash player doesn't support progressive compression. Flash Designer must convert JPEG to baseline compression with default quality 6 (or 60%)

SOLUTION

If you want to control the quality always use baseline compressed JPEGs. If you save with Photoshop choose baseline option in the dialog:

Photo Lab will save JPEG with baseline compression by default. Open your progressive JPEG image and choose "File" > "Save As". (Save the file under different name to keep the original). Use quality 8 or more to achieve better quality. Click preview to verify is quality is acceptable.

Photo Lab comes with Flash Designer. Download now
